Upper Mill: 16h05 - Mugging occurred on the corner of Upper Maynard and Upper Mill Streets. No details available. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Attempted Theft out of Motor Vehicle

Aloe: 03h15 - Resident’s dog started barking profusely, and upon investigattiion, resident found rear left back window on vehicle smashed - nothing stolen. It’s uncertain whether the suspect could be the same person that was arrested previously for trespassing and attempted theft, or whether suspect is a well-spoken, slender bravo male with a 6cm scar on his face, who has recently been hassling resident’s wife to valet the car. He was very insistent and would not leave, demanding money, and walked away swearing and threatening the resident when confronted.

Chelmsford: between 12h00 & 13h00 - Resident arrived home from work to find that someone had tried to force open the security gate on the front door. They had obviously used something sharp as the lock on the gate was scratched and bent. Resident’s neighbour advised that he had been downstairs just after 12h00 and had heard someone rattling the security gates. Upon investigation, he saw two black males (apparently wearing backpacks) who went downstairs as soon as they were noticed, and then left and headed towards Derry Street. It is unsure if they left on foot or in a vehicle.

Davenport: between 06h00 & 18h00 - Resident returned home to find his house had been broken into. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Theft of Motor Vehicle

Chelmsford: between 06h30 & 07h00 - Second vehicle to be broken into in the Disa Park Complex security area. This incident was spotted by the security personnel who disturbed the suspect who was trying to steal the radio. The suspect fled and was chased through the neighbourhood, but eventually escaped. The suspect is a white male wearing black trousers and a black top. A grey hoody was seen under the black top. The incident has been reported to SAPS.

Theft from Property - ARREST

Aloe: between 10h00 & 11h00 - Resident was working in his garage and heard a trolley being pushed down Aloe street. Upon investigation, he noticed the trolley standing abandoned in front of his garage. With radio & dog in tow, the resident found the suspect inside his property removing scaffolding from the premises. The suspect got the fright of his life, and it was made very clear to him that he must remain where he was or the dog would attack! SAPS was called on the radio, and they, along with DPV members, rushed to the scene and the suspect was promptly arrested and locked in the SAPS van. Case number : CAS1566/7/2010.

Chelmsford: between 18h00 & midnight - Vehicle broken into inside the Disa Park Security complex parking area. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Theft out of motor vehicle - ARREST

Vredehoek Avenue: 21:00 - NW member out on patrol spotted a suspicious man hanging around a white City Golf. Oberservation of the man was done and he was seen entering the golf on the passenger side and fiddeling in the vehicle. He stole the entire radio out of the car and proceeded to walk up Vredehoek Avenue. The patroller immediately used the NW RADIO to contact SAPS and other NW members. SAPS arrived along with 7 other NW members within 30 seconds. The suspect was arrested in possession of the radio, a knife and a screwdriver.

Trespassing

St James: 23h30 - Residents of a flat were surprised by a man standing outside their lounge doors. SAPS were called and 2 vehicles responded immediately. 2 NW members were also patrolling at the time. Suspect fled and was not found. Only description is that of a dark male, dark jeans and a grey hooded top.

Ludlow: 04h30 - Suspect accessed the property though a window. The resident woke up to the noise and the suspect fled when confronted. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Plantation: between 06h00 & 18h00 - Empty house that has been for sale was broken into. Suspect was arrested.

Pypies: between 01h30 & 02h00 - A car parked on the street had a window smashed.
There were no visible items inside, so nothing was taken. The incident has been reported to SAPS, case number 1192/7/2010.

Aloe: between 20h00 & 21h30 - People were visiting residents for dinner and had parked their white Corsa Bakkie on the road. This was stolen during the early evening. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Upper Maynard: between 08h30 & 16h30 - Sometime during the day, thieves gained entry to the property by breaking the side gate. They then broke the bottom panels out of the kitchen door, but upon realising that there was a security gate, they broke the side garage door. From the garage they took the garden fork and managed to smash the security gate lock mechanism. They then ransacked the house - trashed the bedroom and ripped the safe out of the wall. The safe was broken into in the back garden, and jewellery, cash, passports and other goods were stolen. All the goods were thrown into a blue Polo tog bag. The ALARM WAS ON BUT DID NOT GO OFF!! Incident has been reported to SAPS : case number 980/07/2010.

Pypies: 01h15 - Suspect broke open the front door of a house while the occupants were away. It does not appear that anything was stolen as the alarm seems to have scared him off. Suspect ran over neighbours property to get away.

Crassula: between 16h30 & 17h30 - Man wearing khaki clothing and an afro style haircut was seen breaking into the car. Small black bag stolen. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Attempted Theft out of Motor Vehicle - ARREST

Pypies: 08h15 - The residents’ driveway gate was opened at 8:15am so that the vehicles could be taken out. The residents went back into the house to say goodbye to the family, and during this time, the suspect came into the driveway and smashed the passenger window of the vehicle with a metal water meter cover. The residents heard several hard bangs before they heard the glass smashing. A bravo male was seen in the vehicle going through everything to see what he could steal, so the residents pushed the panic button which sent the suspect running into the street. The resident grabbed his radio and called for RC, who came to the scene very quickly, as well as members from DPV watch. The suspect was found in Roeland Street, casually walking in a downhill direction, and he was followed and captured by two SAPS vehicles, CBAR and 3 DPV watch vehicles who had surrounded him by the time he got to Oester Street, less than a KM from the scene of the crime. The suspect was arrested, case number 363/7/2010.

Intruder inside home - ARREST

Mellish: between 14h30 & 15h00 - Woman at home with 5-month-old baby heard creaking noises. Couldn’t see anyone, but locked herself in bedroom with baby and phoned husband (neighbours were not home). Then unlocked door, went to listen/look across hallway and saw jacket lying on bed and holes in ceiling above bed. Returned to bedroom and locked door again. When husband got home, neighbours called police while he searched for suspect/stopped passers by. Police arrived very promptly and found suspect hiding in ceiling. They checked but only one man found. He claimed to have been let in by the ‘maintenance man’. Block does not have such a person in its employ. Not known how access was gained to ceiling as no forced entry. Security gate was locked and no accessible windows were open. The suspect is a coloured man, early twenties (see photo attached). A full statement was given to the police who took the suspect down to the station to be charged.

Mugging / Robbery - ARREST

Crassula: 08h00 - A woman was approached by two men as she was walking on the road. They robbed her of her bag and valuables. She tried to chase after them through the plantation and they fled over De Waal Drive. A DPVwatch member witnessed the incident and alerted other members who responded quickly on the radio and to the scene. The two men were followed by car as they ran down towards Woodstock. The men then split up. SAPS responded very quickly and were quided to the suspects via the neighbourhood watch radio. They were able to arrest the one suspect. The suspects are two black males, both wearing black trousers. One was wearing a blue jacket and the other a bright yellow jacket. The second suspect was not found and managed to get away. Attached is a photo of the apprehended suspect.

Theft out of Motor Vehicle

Florida: between 19h30 & 23h00 - Back window of vehicle was broken and radio/tape stolen. Managed to get it without the alarm going off. It is believed that access was gained by opening the rear window from the outside and climbing in and not opening doors.
