Theft of Motor Vehicle 2

Freesia: between 14h30 & 15h00 - 2 young black males allegedly broke into a vehicle and stole a black winter jacket. They were observed by a witness, but a proper description was not obtainable. The suspects were unable to be found, but a suspicious Audi A3 is believed to be involved.

Exner: between midnight & 08h00 - Suspect used a ladder and climbed up front of building to access property from 1st floor window. Laptop was stolen. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Intruder inside home

De Waal: 05h00 - Three black males broke into the house and attempted to tie up the husband and wife occupants. The husband managed to fight them off with a stick which allowed his wife to run for help. The three suspects then ran away. Nothing was stolen. The suspects are believed to be on foot. The victim reports that one suspect was very nervous as if this was his first criminal act.

Aandbloem: between 21h00 & 22h30 - Two female residents drove past a house on the corner and saw that a lot of the home’s contents were packed on the stoep. They also observed a white bakkie (could be a Nissan or Izuzu), registration CY 245 862, at the scene. They alerted a CBAR patrol vehicle to what they felt was a suspicious incident. CBAR arrived at the house and at the same time the owner had returned home. His home had been broken into and contents placed outside to be packed into the getaway vehicle. Well done to alert residents for reporting this and preventing a large theft from taking place. The vehicle’s registration number has been checked and is false.

Attempted Theft from Property

Crassula: 23h00 - 4 black men tried breaking into property on Crassula Ave. They jumped over the gate, moved the garden bench to the window, at which point the resident heard the noise and activated a hand held alarm and the men ran away.

High Cape: between 18h00 & midnight - Vehicle broken into, no further details. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Saddle: between 12h45 & 14h00 - Safety glass and windows were carefully removed from frame and burgler bars were unscrewed. Burgler alarm siren was cut. House was ransacked and money, camera, wallet, house keys and other smaller items of value were stolen. Appears that intruders were disturbed as not all items of value were stolen. Footprints were discovered in garden and fingerprints were taken from glass windows by SAPS. No arrests have been made to date.

Trespassing

Exner: between 13h00 & 14h00 - Resident’s daughter looked out of her bedroom window and saw a man climbing over the wall. She shouted at him - he said he wanted to retrieve a bamboo stick lying next to the wall and then left heading down towards the city centre. The incident was reported to ADT and the local patrol vehicle. This is the second case of intrusion into the property. A few weeks ago they noticed someone had climbed over the wall and attempted to kick in the burglar bars to the storeroom. Suspect described as being a black male, about 30 years old, with a short-sleeved white shirt with a downward stripe on it, and possibly a beard.

Gardenia: 17h15 - Victim was seated in her vehicle. She noticed a man walk past dressed completely in denim, and watched him as he walked around the corner into Barnham avenue. He then walked back and smashed the vehicle’s window with a spark plug end in his hand and proceeded to grab her handbag. He ran around the corner into Barnham avenue - the victim started screaming and chased after him. He ran through the grounds of a block of flats and jumped into a white Polo (no number plates on rear - partial number plate in the front CA513 or 518) which was waiting for him on the road below. He was followed by a passerby who saw him turn onto De Waal drive.

Davenport: between 06h00 & 18h00 - A laptop was stolen from a flat. The building is surrounded by electric fencing and there is controlled access so unsure how entry was gained. Owner says door was left open. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Conduit: between midnight & 06h00 - Car broken into on the corner of Rocklands and Conduit. No further details.

Rocklands: between midnight & 06h00 - Bakkie parked in the road was broken into. Car radio and other items were stolen. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Mugging / Robbery

Plantation: 03h00 - Woman returned home at around 3am and was approched by 4 men - one had a gun. They stole her handbag. The incident has been reported to SAPS. Well done to SAPS who managed to arrest one of the suspects!

Vredehoek: between 11h00 & 13h00 - A black woman and man walked into a restaurant. They wanted to buy a drink. They sat at a table and tried to steal the handbag of the woman at the next table. They put her bag into another bag, but were spotted and they left both bags behind and ran from the restaurant. One black male stayed in the vehicle as the getaway driver in a Red Golf 1 CY327821. The incident has been reported to SAPS.

Derry: 05h30 - Woman had her handbag snatched while on Derry Street. The suspect then ran up Derry and it is believed onto the mountain. Blue bag was stolen. Suspect is described as a coloured male wearing a grey peak cap, sort of orange t-shirt and blue jeans. The incident has been reported to SAPS.

Watsonia: 11h30 - Resident received a call from ADT that alarm was set off. By the time resident arrived home, an ADT security guard was on the premises. The garage had been forced open and various items stolen. Incident has been reported to SAPS.

Upper Maynard: 18h50 - Passer-by broke passenger front window and stole cell phone, then walked off. Suspect is a young (20s) coloured male, short hair, dark clothing, white kerchief tied around bottom of his face.

Intruder inside home

Seymour: 03h00 - Resident heard noises from the upstairs balcony, as if someone was attempting to break in. He went upstrairs but found nothing, then returned downstairs to find that things seemed out of place in the back alley. The resident then returned upstairs and saw a short black / coloured man standing on the outside balcony wearing dark clothing. The suspect shouted through the glass sliding doors saying he would shoot (3 times), so the resident said he was calling the police. At this point, the suspect charged the glass door 3 times, broke through and stole the laptop. The resident had run downstairs to get his family out of the house. The suspect jumped back over the balcony and ran down to Davenport Road, through the adjacent property. SAPS arrived within 2 minutes and attempted to track the suspect on Davenport Road, but with no success.
