Florida: 13h00 - Crowbar was used to open the front door of the flat. Suspects stole items to the value of R60,000 - flat screen TV, amps, golf clubs, clothing. The items were loaded into the car (white VW Golf) and the suspects were leaving the scene, but SAPS cornered the vehicle in town and the suspects fled on foot. One suspect was arrested and he is currently facing charges of hijacking and house break-in. SAPS have now charged him with 9 counts of theft - all incidents in the city bowl. Excellent work by SAPS!!!!

Mugging / Robbery

Freesia: between 22h00 & 23h00 - Woman resident returned home and parked car in driveway next to front gate. She took her bags out her car. When she turned around to check that her car was locked she was approached by a suspect with a knife who shouted at her demanding her handbag. Another two suspects suddenly appeared from behind her car and tripped her so that she fell to the ground. Suspects fled with her handbag to a getaway car waiting at the Freesia / Derry Street corner and drove off down Derry. Suspects were male & coloured and at least two were armed with knives. Vehicle was an old box-shaped Toyota Corolla (mid 80’s model), Reg No starting with CA104 or CA107. Victim suspects the 3 men were hiding in the field across the road. A DPVWatch car patroller had actually noticed the getaway car hovering at the street corner minutes before the incident, but when he came around back into Freesia the vehicle was gone and it was assumed to be a taxi. Getaway car had possibly then circled around the block to avoid suspicion. Suspects involved : 3 coloured males, and 1 either black or coloured male driver. The incident has been reported to SAPS.

Mugging / Robbery

Noordelik: 03h30 - Male and female returned home by taxi and were robbed of their cell phones and hand bags upon entering the premises by two tall, big black men who appeared to have been waiting for them. Assailants attacked the man with pepper spray before taking their possessions and fleeing on foot. Police responded very quickly but no suspects were apprehended. There are also suspicions about the involvement of the taxi driver (coloured male), as the couple had traveled from Claremont and had told the driver where they were going. The fact that the two men were waiting at the residence at 03h30 in the morning suggests they were expecting them to be arriving.

Mugging / Robbery

Gladiolus: 19h30 - Woman parked her car and walked towards her friends house. A car pulled up and a white man got out of the car - he was very friendly and confident. He asked her for directions to a guest house. She tried to assist and he then pulled out a gun, pointed it at her and demanded her bag. She threw the bag at him. This is the third incident in the City Bowl (also took place in Oranjezicht and Tamboerskloof), and there have been 3 other incidents across the city. The suspect is a white male, approximately 50 years old, with blonde hair and white/grey facial hair/stubble. He was wearing a mustard yellow t-shirt and was almost hippie looking. The driver of the car is believed to be a coloured male. The details of the car are very uncertain. The victim and an eyewitness said that it was a sedan but the colour reports differ. In other incidents across the city, the car was reported to have a GP registration. SAPS detectives think it is possible that these guys are using different cars.
