Two men smashed the window of a vehicle in an attempt to break into the vehicle. They ran down Chelsea Avenue.

Assistance was requested when an altercation took place on the corner of Derry Street and Exner Avenue after a man accused another of stealing his cell phone. The accused ran down Freesia Avenue with the “victim” running after him. The cell phone was found on the accused and everyone left the area.

House robbery

Frank Avenue - Wednesday, at 21:20
Three men cut through the fence of a mountain-facing property and bypassed the alarmed beams to reach the house. They entered the house through an open back door. The men were heavily armed with a firearm, machete and what appeared to be a sword-like knife. They were scared off when the alarm was triggered and fled, escaping with a money box, a cell phone, two laptops and wallets. Security, DPV patrollers and SAPS rushed to the scene. There was no sighting of the men.

Around the same time that the fire happened in a garage on Chelmsford Road, tools were stolen from a property on Pinoak. The owner was assisting with the fire.

A garage from Mountain Close was broken into and a bicycle and a toolbox were stolen. The suspects then started a fire in the storeroom off the garage that had two wooden cabinets containing camping and hiking gear as well as boxes with paper. Two explosions were heard and the owner saw a vehicle leaving. Firefighters had to put the fire out. Two gas canisters had caused the explosion.

A bedroom window was broken and items were stolen. The owner suspects that the break-in took place between 16:00 and 17:00.

The owner of two cars was the victim of a battery thief with both the batteries from the two cars being stolen. They were parked on the corner of St James Street and Wexford Road.

House Break-in ARREST!

Derry Street - Tuesday, at 17:50
A man stole items from a house on the corner of Aloe and Derry Street. Builders from a site nearby chased after him and caught up with him as he tried to escape via Noordelik Avenue. They pinned him down and waited a short while for an off duty Law Enforcement officer to arrest the suspect. The incident happened during SAPS’s shift change and a SAPS vehicle wasn’t immediately available.

Man tried to break into car. He smashed the right front window, but didn’t take anything. A resident yelled and the man walked up the street. The owner came out when the alarm went off and move the car into the driveway.

A resident noticed a man trying to break into a car parked on the road. Once the suspect realized that he had been spotted, he left, but neighbours kept an eye on him while waiting for ADT to respond. ADT apprehended the suspect and then searched for a bag that a had dumped.

A white, round pine table was stolen off the “stoep”. It happened after the alarm was switched off at 6:30am and the beams were deactivated. A neighbour tried to stop the suspect, but he quickly headed over the bridge (of Philip Kgosana) to Stroompie.

Vredehoek Avenue - Wednesday, at 14:39
A bakkie was broken into. The owner ran after the suspect. His stolen items were fortunately recovered by a brave jogger who realized the man was on the run. Patrollers gave back up and caught up with the suspect as he was about to cross Philip Kgosana and he was apprehended and eventually taken in by SAPS. The incident was reported at 14:39 and patrollers, with the assistance of a Law Enforcement Auxiliary Officer, caught the suspect at 14:55.

An owner found his vehicle with its back door open and the seat pulled down. Access was gained to the boot where the tyre, jack and other accessories were taken.
