The resident awoke to discover that the house had been broken into. Items stolen include a TV, sunglasses, MacBook, keys and a wallet.

Van Ryneveld Road, Tuesday between 0:00 and 06:00
The suspects forced open the front door. The resident was away at the time. Nothing appeared to have been stolen. A set of keys was taken from the house but SAPS recovered these in the garden.

Mugging/robbery

Ludlow Road, Tuesday at 15:55
A high school student was walking through Wexford Park when she was attacked by a Coloured male who had run into the park through the lower gate on the Ludlow Road side. She had entered the park through that gate too. He held a knife to her collar bone and stole her BlackBerry phone. Bystanders in the park tried to take the keys out of the ignition of the mugger’s car but he pulled the knife on them. They managed to take a different bunch of keys (not car keys) and his hat. He made off towards Vredehoek Avenue. The vehicle is believed to be a white Mazda hatchback, registration CY 375 248.

Attempted Theft out of Motor Vehicle – ARREST

Pinoak Road, Tuesday at 06.15
The suspect threw a massive rock through the window of the car parked in a driveway; this landed on the handbrake. As the suspect leant into the vehicle the pressure on the handbrake caused it to fail and the car rolled back and hit a wall across the road. The suspect managed to get out of the car but the noise alerted the owner who woke her son. The suspect ran away down the mountainside but the son alerted other residents who gave chase. The residents stopped the suspect on De Waal Drive. SAPS arrived and arrested him.

The car was not locked. Items stolen from the car include a GPS, sunglasses and two bags.

The sliding door was forced open. Running shoes and luggage was stolen.

Upland Avenue, Friday at 4:30
The glass pane was removed from the patio door. The suspects got onto the property and stole all items of value that they could see including laptops etc.
High Cape Security saw two men walking down the road and one was carrying a computer monitor. They gave chase and the suspects jumped into a property on Belladonna Road. They then managed to run away.

Intruder inside home/Trespassing

Gardenia Avenue, Friday at 02:45.
Intruder triggered front beam outside house. The resident saw a figure moving past their gate, and ran outside to see the suspect jumping over the hedge into the neighbour’s garden. Both CBAR and SAPS were alerted. The suspect allegedly left behind a mountain bike, a small backpack and a wine cooler.

Thieves gained access by breaking burglar bars in side window. One black Macbook, one grey laptop and small green Northface backpack were stolen from house.

The residents were busy moving into the house. They were upstairs unpacking and the front door was closed but unlocked. When they went downstairs they realised that a small music system had been stolen from just inside the front door.

Attempted theft from property - ARREST

Ben Avenue - Friday at 14:45
A vehicle that had previously been involved in house break-ins in our area and elsewhere in the City Bowl set off an LPR Alert in the morning as it entered the area via Crassula Avenue and then left quickly via Barnham. In the afternoon it entered the area again via Barnham and DPVwatch members as well as SAPS mobilised to go and find the vehicle. A patroller drove into Ben Avenue and noticed a man sitting on the side of the road. He then saw the suspect vehicle - a VW Jetta - parked on the side. He called in for assistance over the radio. The Jetta tried to leave the area and the man walked away. However both were stopped. While they were being spoken to, a resident returned home and screamed for help as there were two men inside his flat stealing his belongings. They jumped the wall to get away. One of the two was apprehended but the second got away. In total three of the four suspects were arrested.
Excellent work by DPVwatch members and not possible without the LPR Cameras and the radio network.

Kreupelhout Avenue - Thursday at 04:37
The suspects evaded the exterior beams to access the property. They attempted to remove the glass from a large stacking door but it shattered halfway up. They were able to bend it back to squeeze in. The alarm activated but they managed to rummage through the study and upstairs bedroom cupboard. They stole a laptop, video camera, jewellery and cash.
DPVwatch members and CBAR responded within 6 minutes but the suspects had fled.

An intruder tried top open the front door. The resident was home and she screamed and he ran away.

Pinetree Crescent, Wednesday at 04:00
The burglar bars to a window were forced open. The resident woke up and say a black teenager in the window. He ran away and stole the car keys.

House robbery

Aloe Road - Tuesday at 04:00
Resident awoke to find 2 or 3 suspects in the second bedroom. Entry gained through window by twisting burglar bars open with a tree stump. Suspects held what felt like a knife to victim’s back and he was tied up in his bedroom. Suspects went through house for 30min and loaded victim’s car (in garage) with valuables, electronics, TV etc.
Suspects then fled in victim’s car together with another car which was identified on LPR cameras for investigation. Victim alerted neighbours who called SAPS and DPV over the DPV radio network for immediate response.

The resident had been away. On his return, he found that his flat had been burgled. The sliding door had been forced open. Items stolen include a TV, computer, hard drive and clothes.

At 03h42 the alarm triggered and CBAR was asked to check the exterior of the property. There were no signs of entry so the resident went back into the house when she realised that access had been gained by removing the glass door pane in the lounge. Items stolen included a computer monitor, camera and Ipod. It appear that they had also wanted to steal a modem and had rummaged though the desk drawers.
