House robbery

Rugley Road - Friday, at 19:20
Resident returned home and noticed a light on in her Airbnb flat. She found the front door unlocked and became aware of a man in the kitchen. There was a struggle with the intruder as he made his way to the entrance door of the flats, which he was unable to kick open. After another struggle during which the intruder had his hands around the resident’s neck, he managed to run back into the flat and locked her out. She was quick to set off the panic alarm in the garage. CBAR arrived within minutes followed by DPVwatch members. They were able to access the flat and found the intruder had already escaped.

SAPS arrested a man for being in possession of car break-in implements.

Theft from property

Windburg - between Saturday 12:00 and Sunday 14:30
The house was robbed but there was no sign of forced entry. Item stolen include a laptop, 2 cameras, jewellery and a leather bag.
Reported to SAPS.

Theft out of Motor Vehicle

Windburg Avenue — 02.50 to 03.10
Resident awoke to noise of car stopping outside house and spotted coloured male get out of White Corsa/Chev bakkie and walk towards Polo parked in street. Unfortunately dissappeared out of view but returned to bakkie few minutes later carrying object in his hands, climbed into bakkie and sped off. The owner of the Polo left at about 03h10 and noticed car radio was missing. Residents also spotted green Nissan Sentra with single occupant parked around corner in Watsonia Street at this time. This vehicle sped off when noticed by the residents.
Case has been reported to SAPS.

Theft out of motor vehicle

Chelmsford — between 19.00 and 10.00
Overnight 27/28 December, a vehicle on Chelmsford Road was broken into. The window was forced down but not broken. The service book was stolen.

Attempted theft from property - ARREST

Intersection Escombe & St James Streets — around 12 midday
A man was seen at an open window of a ground floor flat by a resident in the block across the road. The resident shouted at him and he ran away. Resident reported the incident to SAPS who put the information out on the radio network. DPVwatch radio members reacted swiftly and spotted the accused in Bellair Road where he was apprehended. SAPS searched him and found a wallet which he had stolen earlier in the day in University Estate. Suspect was taken to the Police Station and charged.

Theft from property - ARREST

Ludlow Road - 01.30 am
A Coloured male and female broke into a garage at a block of flats and stole a bicycle. A tenant in the block looked out his window when he heard a noise and saw the male pulling the bicycle out of the garage. The suspects walked down Ludlow towards Upper Buitenkant Street and were last seen in front of Gardens Centre. A DPV member was notified about the break-in and a description of the suspects was transmitted over the radio. The man and bicycle was stopped and detained in Queen Victoria Street by DPV, TBK, Bo Kaap menbers.
SAPS has arrested these two before for breaking into garages in our area. They still have cases pending. They normally operate with a minibus taxi as their getaway vehicle.

A Silver Motomia scooter with registration CA 745 437 was stolen.

Aloe Road - Saturday at 02:25am
Intruder climbed onto upper deck and tried to force open sliding door, alarm set off and he escaped over the front wall into neighbor and into High Cape green belt.

A tall thin man with a baseball cap attempted to break into a property just after midnight. The resident screamed and the suspect fled.

Items were stolen from a flat in a secure building and there was no sign of forced entry. Items stolen include a camera, iPad, computer and clothing.

A Blue VW Polo Playa was stolen.

ARREST

Vredehoek Avenue - Saturday around 15:30
A DPVwatch member was driving to town and noticed two men acting suspiciously. The men bent down behind a parked white Toyota Stallion and removed a drain cover. After seeing the drain cover had been removed he called for assistence on the DPV radio network. Various DPV and other neighborhood watch members responded. The suspects fled and attempted to get away by ditching their vehicle in Oranjezicht but were spotted again and arrested. Six municipal drain covers and a small amount of tik were found in the vehicle.

The garden flat was broken into - the security gate was ripped off and the front door bashed in.

Highlands Close - Saturday between 10:00 & !4:00
A large wooden door to the house was forced open with a crowbar. An extensive amount of stuff was stolen including flat screen TV’s, laptops, jewellery, linen etc.

The suspects went through the roof to gain access to the Spar and stole a large amount of cigarettes.

Yeoville Road - Tuesday at 10:30am
ntruder(s) on property pulled open window at front of house, bent burglar bars and moved TV aerial out of the way to climb in. Alarm activated and dogs barking appear to have deterred intruder(s) who closed window and left empty-handed. Neighbours who investigated found garden gate open but no sign of anyone.
