Attempted Theft from property - ARREST

Upper Mill Street - Saturday around 20:30
A man tried to bash down the front door of the house. A patroller who was out saw a suspicious man walking up Upper Mill Street and then he went onto Clovely and tried to hide in a property there. She had alerted SAPS and other radio holders who helped her monitor the man until SAPS got there. It was then determined that this was the man who had tried to break in. A case was opened and a positive ID made.

Derry Street - Friday around 09:30
A car parked near the Spar was broken into. Items stolen included jewellery, leather filofax, leather bag, ID etc.

Rocklands - Tuesday between 07:20 & 10:00
A window to the house was left half open. The resident heard somebody trying to open the window further and shouted and they ran away.

Car was broken into and a Virgin Active Gym bag and two pairs or gym shoes was stolen.

The suspect had come into the property via an open kitchen window. However the resident was home so shouted and he ran away without stealing anything.

The spare tyre was stolen from underneath the van. A shifting spanner was left behind at the scene so the suspects may have been disturbed.

The back door was forced open and the entire house was ransacked some jewellery and small items was stolen.

A flat window was left slightly opened. This was pushed further open and a laptop was stolen.

A wendy house on the property was broken into and a watch valued at R3200 was stolen.

Upland Ave, HIgh Cape -Friday during the day
The security gate and front door to the flat were forced open possibly with a crowbar. Items stolen included an Apple Mac, digital camera, tea maker and toaster.
It appears that the suspects first tried to break into the neighboring flat as the security gate was damaged. These flats were not visible from the road so the security guards did not see the suspects nor know what time it happened.

A tail light was stolen off a motorcycle that was parked on the street.

Theft out of vehicle - ARREST

Virginia Ave - Wednesday in the early hours of the morning.
SAPS stopped and searched a man walking in the area and he was in possession of a laptop and other items hidden in his clothing. SAPS then determined that the times had been stolen from a car that has just been broken into. The owner of the car was notified and he opened a case. Excellent work by SAPS.

Theft out of vehicle - ARREST

Lambert Road - Tuesday 13:40
An alert radio holder saw a man walking up and down the road past a bakkie which he seemed very interested in. She called in for more assistance to monitor the man. A second patroller came along the road and saw him running down Ludlow Road and fiddling with his trousers. He was stopped by SAPS and initially thought to have nothing on him but they put him into the van to check at the station. The patroller return to the bakkie and a smashed window was discovered. The complainant was found and the suspect returned to the scene. The suspect was then found to be wearing the complainants jacket and the stolen GPS was discovered well hidden in the suspects underpants.
Excellent work by an alert radio holder who was out on the kids school run! Thanks to SAPS for a very speedy response.

Upper Mill Street - Sunday at 21:20
DPVwatch patrollers noticed a man and a women looking into cars as they walked down Upper Mill Street. They doubled back up the road and went to a silver Toyota Runx. They waited for the coast to clear and then broke the large passenger window. The patrollers and SAPS stopped them before they could steal anything out of the vehicle. The suspects were a man and a women and were arrested and a case opened.

A house was broken into sometime during the day and jewellery was stolen. It it thought that access was gained via a window that had been left slightly open.

Car was broken into and a school blazer, books and a helmet was stolen.

Mugging - ARREST

Derry Street - Saturday 17:45
A women was getting out of her vehicle and was approached by two men who stole her handbag containing wallet, keys, home address etc. They sped off in a white Nissan Bakkie with a canopy and registration CA 331 665. The suspects were two colored men wearing peak caps.
Reported to SAPS.

UPDATE - the vehicle was registered to an owner in Woodstock. SAPS have been there and arrested the driver and are following up on his accomplice.

Suspects tried to open the door via the lock on the passenger side and damaged the lock.
Reported to SAPS.

Theft out of vehicle - ARREST

Vredehoek Avenue - Saturday at 12:45
DPVwatch patrollers were out monitoring two men walking around the area when they came across to other men and followed them as well. They monitored them come up Virginia and into Vredehoek Avenue. They called for SAPS assistance. While they were still monitoring these two men they smashed the small back window of a white Polo and grabbed a jacket and calmly walked off. This was witnessed by the patrollers who called in for more assistance and SAPS help. The suspects split but but with so many people to assist they were both monitored until SAPS arrived and arrested them both and one was still in possession of the stolen jacket. Excellent work and thanks to these vigilant patrollers and the radio network.

Exner Ave - Friday around 13:00
The suspects must have jumped over the wall and dislodged the exterior security beam to avoid detection. They then pried open a window and the front door to access the house. The suspects went through all the cupboards in the bedroom and other areas of the house. Stealing 2 laptops, cheque book, bank cards, jewelry and a pillow. Many of the stolen items were dumped on the road near by and recovered by an alert resident. Unfortunately the suspects and the 2 laptops were gone.

Ave Montange - Friday 4pm
The suspects broke open the security door and used screwdrivers to prise open the front door. They stole a television, laptop, desk-top computer, some warm jackets and a whole box of photos, photo albums of all the owner’s overseas trips. It is thought that the owner disturbed them when she came home. As she got to the flat she saw that her curtains were closed that she never closes so went to a neighbor for assistance.

The burglar bars on the security gate and the flat door were forced open probably with a crowbar. Items stolen include 2 computes, monitor, 4 hard drives, 2 watches etc.

Theft from Property - ARREST

Anemone - Thursday around 17:45
Two men accessed a house and were inside the property when the owner returned. They picked up a knife and threatened her and then left the property with various items.
At the same time a resident on Pypies Square saw a man duck onto her property and hide from an ADT patrol vehicle. When the vehicle passed he left the property. She used her radio to broadcast the information and DPVwatch members responded. It was then discovered that the break in had occurred around the corner and then man was stopped by members and ADT and he was in possession of the stolen property. The second suspect got away. But one excellent arrest was made.
