SAPS reported back that the month of June saw a decrease in Common & Aggravated Robberies and Theft Out Of Motor Vehicle in comparison to May. There was also a decrease in reports of  the use of dangerous weapons and the possession of drugs. Resources were focused on robberies around the Transport Hub as a crime hotspot.
While DPV was not seen as a hotspot for robberies, SAPS warned that the grabbing of gold chains and cellphones (particularly while victims were waiting for their Uber rides) continues to be an issue. Robberies were most commonly seen in hotspot streets such as Strand, Long, Old Marine Drive, Adderley, Castle, Bree, and Canterbury. Sunday was the most common day for robberies, between the hours of 18h00 and 21h00.
SAPS noted that regarding Theft Out Of Motor Vehicle incidents, criminals targeted the CBD during the day (06h00 to 00h00) and residential areas at night (18h00 to 21h00). Vredehoek was third highest for TOOMV incidents, which mostly occurred on Fridays and Saturdays. The methods used were the breaking of windows, remote jamming, and forcing car doors open.
Most of the informal settlements which were served their eviction notices have until 31 July to move from their current locations, however the informal residents outside of the Castle have until the end of September. SAPS are expecting a lot of movement during these next few months, and residents are urged to be vigilant of any possible newcomers to our area. Everyone at the current locations has been listed, which aims to prevent any extra occupants from joining or moving to a different location. There will also be new shelters opening at the end of this month which will hopefully accommodate more of those who are unable to find space in shelters at the moment.
