DPVwatch attended the monthly CPF meeting, as well as the Sector Meeting (bringing together the city’s neighbourhood watches from Sectors 2, 3, and 5) this month.
Brigadier Van Niekerk appears to be stationed at Cape Town Central permanently as the station’s commander, which is excellent news as positive arrests and efficiency at the station have all reportedly increased since her arrival at the beginning of this year.
Grabbing of cellphones through open windows at traffic lights, and the grabbing of chains from pedestrians, remains a huge issue. We urge residents to remain vigilant when driving or walking – keep valuables like jewelry and cellphones in your bag or pocket.
Incidents of Theft Out of Motor Vehicle have impacted all Sectors, with Vredehoek among the most-targeted suburbs. Incidents reached a peak during April particularly on Fridays, between the hours of 15h00 and 21h00.
SAPS report that since the beginning of January this year, the following streets have experienced the most house break-ins: Davenport, Yeoville, Pinetree, Sidmouth, Clovelly, Highlands Close, Seymour, and Garfield. Wednesdays and Thursdays appeared to be the most common days for incidents, followed by Sundays and Mondays, within the following timeslots: 15h00 – 18h00, 21h00 – 00h00, and 09h00 – 12h00.
Brigadier Van Niekerk is focusing efforts towards cleaning up the station deck where stolen goods are most commonly sold. SAPS are updating their list of registered vendors, and removing any sellers who are not formally registered.
