Cold front safety tips from our Armed Response partners

As we all try to keep warm during this cold front, keep fire safety in mind!

  • Ensure that your smoke alarms are working, and have them tested if you are unsure.
  • Replace your fire extinguishers – you should have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and the garage of your home. When using your heater, make sure that it is placed at least 1 meter away from flammable objects such as curtains, bedding, or furniture. If you are using a gas heater, make sure that you switch it off and turn off the gas & unplug your electric heater before going to bed.
  • Switch off all appliances before going to bed.
  • Ensure candles and open flames are kept far away from bedding and other flammable materials. Remember to extinguish the flame before going to bed.
  • If you are using an electric blanket, make sure that you switch it off before going to bed. Do not leave it on all night.
