If you choose not to orpret this to your insurance company you will lose their defense if the other party decides to try and get more money out of you later. I see this all the time. Let's say you believe it's a small amount of damages and ask the other party to obtain an estimate. He comes back with a fair estimate and his vehicle is repaired. Two months down the road the paint start peeling or the car starts making a noise the guy swears wasn't there before the accident. Well, guess who's stuck dealing with this? That little accident could end up costing you big time. My advise is to immediately contact your insurance company and let them defend you. That's what you pay them for. Keep in mind most claims don't cause an increase in your premium if they payout is less than $750 (in many cases).
